Hi Craig,

The article is a few years old now so there will be some better and lighter kit out there now. I used to own a zipka (like a tikka but a retractable zip instead of a headtorch) I have actually done night time fell races with the tikka and the Myo XP and there is a noticeable difference in beam. If that is not needed there is the mini petzl emergency light that is even lighter.

The inov8 I am unsure if they are classed as waterproof? Last I checked they did not have taped seams therefore were only classed as showerproof? Be careful on that?

The jackets! Wow there is some nice but expensive jackets out there isn't there! If money was no object I am sure I could save about 500g but I also suspect it would cost best part of £500 to do it.

Have a good one, I am hoping to be up and running by the end of this summer if all goes well

Im looking at kit choice for the 50 mile Longmynd Hike, but with no overnight stay involved. As Im running rather than walking it this year, Im keen to reduce weight as much as I possibly can. This article has been really useful, although I have seen a few things which appear as good in terms of quality, but a little lighter ie:

Torch (Petzl Tikka XP2 88g but still a 60m beam)
Waterproof trousers (Inov8 mistlite 130g)
Jacket (Haglofs Oz goretex paclite smock, or newer Ozo model, 180g for large, slightly less for medium, OR soon to be released Montane Spektr smock at just over 200g for 3-layer event if youve got the cash

Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources back to your website? My blog site is in the exact same area of interest as yours and my users would definitely benefit from a lot of the information you provide here. Please let me know if this ok with you. Many thanks!
