About

Middle Pack is a blog by Anthony Fryer and is mainly a place for reviews, reports and general info about off road running, mountain biking and Adventure Racing.  I will probably include more stuff over time but that is enough for one person to be getting on with.

Why bother?

So why go to all the trouble to design and launch a site and write regularly to keep it updated? I imagine most people think blogs are just for people who like the sound of their own voice. However true or false that statement is I do have alterior motives.  The site has been hand coded and crammed into a wordpress CMS. It has taught me a lot about both web design in general but also the wordpress platform.  My main goal was to create a functional site from scratch then develop additional features as time went on. The only way I could do this was to talk about something that I found interesting.

The future?

This site will continue to be updated as long as I am out enjoying the hills. More features will be added frequently to the site and I hope to organise some friendly “training runs” off the back of the site but first things first. Lets get some visitors.

I am in the process of adding some mapping functionallity. This will include google maps of race routes and also a large UK map with posts and images tagged with their geographical location.

I have also included some ways of tracking training and racing miles. I thought of a full training diary but then thought how dull that would be for others. I will instead be tracking racing miles on both foot and bike to see how many miles I cover in a race situation in 2009 (not very many the way the season is so far)
