Rab Mountain Marathon location revealed
Posted in Running
The Rab Mountain Marathon, now in its second year has revealed its location for 2008 is Back O’ Skiddaw and Blencathra. Starting from the village hamlet of Caldbeck and taking us on a tour of some rarely visited fells. in the North of the Lake District.
We have been promised an idyllic overnight camp without the luxury we had last year. So no showers, no burger van and no pub within walking distance. We are truly roughing it apart from a possibility of milk if we are lucky. Apparently we are surrounded by a bank of oak trees? This got me looking straight away on OS maps and google earth and I have a few ideas where it could be as it has to have road access (or at least track access) and a stream along with a small wooded area. Suppose it makes no difference though.
Main thing to expect is less people than some of the other bigger more established mountain marathons, yet still with the same excellent laid back and effective organisation skills that you expect with the Dark and White crew. Rab have really backed a winner here! This is a true classic in the making and I expect it to take the title of the true navigators mountain marathon.
Really cannot wait for this event! Been looking forward to it since I finished the race last year. Just wish I had done more training. With only two weeks to go I fear it may just be a bit too late.
